Have Toys Will Play
Have Toys Will Play is built on a fact most dog owners already half-know: dogs choose an unfamiliar toy over a familiar one thirty-eight times out of fifty. It is the novelty they are chasing, not the purchase — so instead of posting another parcel, this app turns the toys already in your house into a rotation. You catalogue what you own, one line each: what it is, whether it is soft or firm or hard, whether it squeaks, crinkles, rattles or says nothing. Three of them sit out on the shelf; the rest rest in the basket, each with a Spark meter filling as it goes. Once a week The Swap names exactly which ones come back out and which go away, and it explains every pick with the numbers that produced it — 'Rope has rested eleven days, past Bo's eight-day spark point, and rope-textured toys average 4.3 for him against his 3.6 overall.' That eight-day figure is not a rule from the internet. The published work on toy habituation is about a single session and found the rest interval made no difference at all, so this app refuses to state one: until your log holds six returns from rest across three different toys, it shows seven days clearly labelled as common shelter practice, with a counter for how many observations are still needed, and only then replaces it with your dog's own measured number. Alongside the rotation sits a daily plan that fits the time you actually have. Tell it your slots and where play happens, and it fills them from a library of sixty activities across the five enrichment categories used in shelter and zoo welfare work — social, food and foraging, a job to do, the senses, and the body — filtering out anything needing more room than an apartment has and steering toward whichever category your week is thinnest on. Every card says why it was chosen. Logging takes two taps: done, and how into it they seemed, one to five. That rating is described honestly as your read, never dressed up as a measurement of your dog's happiness, and it is the raw material for everything else — the Trait Read that works out whether your dog is a soft-and-squeaky or a firm-and-silent dog, the Sniff Bank that tracks the one activity with a real published welfare result behind it, and the rest flag that speaks up when the ratings start sliding or the week has run well past the minutes you set. Chew Check runs the thumbnail test, the size-behind-the-molars test and the antler-hoof-and-bone question, and retires a damaged toy on the spot. The whole activity library, the daily plan, Chew Check and The Swap itself are free and always will be — an idea list is findable on Google in seconds. Membership buys only what nobody else can give you: what your own dog's log says.
